GenCom has, over the years, become one of the areas preeminent builders of Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities (SCIF's). These facilities are used by the government and government contractors for the storage and desemination of sensitive information.
Given the sensitivity of these areas we can not publish pictures or go into detail about any particular SCIF's we have constructed. In general, a SCIF will be constructed depending on the end user's requirements and the type of information that will be contained within its perimeter.
A SCIF is an accredited area, room, group of rooms, buildings, or installation where sensitive information may be stored, used, discussed, and/or electronically processed. SCIF's will be afforded personnel access control to preclude entry by unauthorized personnel. The physical security protection for a SCIF is intended to prevent as well as detect visual, acoustical, technical, and physical access by unauthorized persons. Security criteria are governed by whether the SCIF is in the United States or not, according to the following conditions: closed storage, open storage, continuous operations, secure working area.
All documentation pertaining to SCIF construction is appropriately controlled and restricted on a need-to-know basis.
Typical SCIF construction usually consists of one or more of the following:
-
Extending existing partitions to the deck;
-
Upgrading existing partitions to STC-45;
-
Installing insulation;
-
Installing expanded metal;
-
Access control;
-
Man-bars, inspection ports and non-conductive boots for ductwork;
-
Sound baffles;
-
Patching above-ceiling wall penetrations;
-
Placing non-conductive sleeves on plumbing pipes;
-
Relocating electrical wiring;
-
Kinetic Isolation Hangers;
-
Acoustical doors and seals;
-
Vault doors;
-
White noise generators;
-
EMI/RFI Shielding;
-
Spin dial, electromechanical locks;
-
Cypher locks.
